A month after the massive earthquake in Haiti in 2010, most residents of Port-au-prince were living in sprawling tent camps throughout the city. But in Fort National, a dense hillside neighborhood that was one of the hardest hit by the quake, there were still remnants of life. Residents were determined to stay behind. While their families lived in a nearby camp, men toiled away without government help, clearing debris, removing bodies and protecting their belongings from looters.
